Definitions of the core objects in Dafne.

Objects you define

  • Scenario - a set of related tasks planned together by a common event
  • Group - a set of tasks within a scenario, sharing limits and a default multiday mode
  • Task - the basic unit of execution: one statement, command or job
  • Connection - how a task reaches the system it executes against
  • Parameter - a user-defined value substituted into statements
  • Tag - an informative label on a task, used for filtering and reporting
  • Operator - a notification target
  • Calendar - the record of non-working days

Objects created at runtime

  • Processing - one planned run of a scenario for a given date and iteration

A scheduled task is one instance of a task within a processing. It carries the status; the task definition does not. See Task and processing statuses.

Substitution

  • Placeholders - markers replaced with their values before a statement is executed

How they fit together

A scenario contains one or more groups; each group contains tasks; each task executes through a connection.

When the scenario's planning event occurs, a processing is created for a particular date, and every eligible task becomes a scheduled task within it. From that point the processing, not the definition, is what the operator works with.
